I’ve realized that Secret Cities are one of my favourite bands twice. The first time was when I first heared their amazing debut Pink Graffiti , an album I can’t get enough of and was one of the best albums of 2010.
The second time was 10 minutes ago, when I got an email from them with a link to a new single, off a new album due to be released with their fantastic Austin based label – Western Vinyl, on March 29th.
According to the Western Vinyl website, the band decided to challenge itself and write and record album under a stressful deadline. The result, Strange Hearts was ready in three months.
First taste from Strange Hearts , in the shape of a first single Love Crimes, is a promise.
Again, Secret Cities are bringing that semi-lo-fi sound of theirs, that somehow manages to get close to a wall-of-sound, but avoids from going all the way, in order to make it not-kitch. The melody is catchy and beautiful as always, and hints of the first album when he sings the words “I Know”, which automatically makes me wanna complete the sentence with “You still want me, I know I know you still need me know”. But maybe it’s just me.
Great single. eagerly waiting for the vinyl to arrive from Austin. God bless Secret Cities.
