It’s obvious to the readers of this blog, that I’m a HUGE fan of Richard Thompson, and new album of his is always great news.
Well, just got the news now – A new album is due in August 31st – Dream Attic.
The new album, recorded with his live band during his his recent west-coast shows, is a documentation of a very creative times for Thompson, and all these songs were written during this time.
For those who follow Thompson’s work, you already know that his shows are one fantastic spectacle and that’s the reason Thompson has been releasing live recordings through his website (my favorite recording is Two Letter Words – a stunning collection of songs and performances).
The new album, consists of new songs only, will be promoted with an October UK Tour and a US tour in January.
The band consists of some old time band members ; Pete Zorn (guitars, flute, sax, mandolin), Michael Jerome (drums), Taras Prodaniuk (bass), and Joel Zifkin (violin, mandolin)
To celebrate this, Thompson has been giving away a free track from the album, Big Sun Falling In The River for those who subscribe to the album’s promo campaign. In order to ruin for him, I won’t give it for a free download, but you can definitely fill your details in this cool widget, and listen to it first.
It’s a beautiful song, in the Thompson tradition of of the ‘he and she’ songs, always touching and emotional. The melody reminds me a bit of this 1999 Bathsheba Smiles from the fantastic Mock Tudor album.
